The Patientia, known amongst themselves as "The Enlightened", are the most persecuted of the races of Extremus Terra. Exiled and making their home in the island chain of The Ridge in the warm Southern Ocean, they are mostly self-sufficient. The capital of The Ridge, Midport, is the country's largest city, and one of only two large cities in the island chain; The Patientia prefer a quiet lifestyle, and live mostly scattered in small villages that often contain only a handful of families.

They possess a unique ability to hear, and not just audible noises over long distances. If close enough, their hearing is so acute that they can hear the thoughts of people and animals around them. Over time, they have learned the ability to communicate with some of the more intelligent mammals, although the animals are rarely comfortable with such communication and an actual conversation is uncommon.

Some of the most studious and focused members of the Patientia are also capable of learning the art of Psionics, a mental focus so strong that it allows them to manipulate the physical world around them. Little is known about these abilities, and the frightening nature of them leads the other races of humans to have all the more reason to exile the Patientia.
